These healthy, homemade oven baked sweet potato chips go perfectly with our recipe for sugar free tomato sauce for dipping. These make for a great snack, after school treat and also a clean eating side dish the kid’s (and big kids) will love too. Perfect for a gluten free, grain free or Paleo snack.

Baked Sweet Potato Chips + Sugar Free Tomato Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 medium sweet potato cut to resemble chips
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 pinch Sea salt and black pepper
Tomato Sauce
- 400 g organic crushed tomatoes (with no added sugar or preservatives)*
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic crushed
- 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
- 1 pinch Sea salt and black pepper
Instructions
- Pre heat fan-forced oven to 200C.
- In a medium mixing bowl toss sweet potato with oil, salt and pepper.
- Transfer to a baking tray.
- Bake in oven for 30 - 35 minutes, turning at half way, or until cooked through and golden.
- Meanwhile make tomato sauce. Puree tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, basil, salt and pepper in a blender/food processor or hand mix with attachment until smooth. (I use my Vitamix).
- Pour mixture into a medium saucepan and simmer for 15 minutes. Allow to cool.
- Serve chips hot with tomato sauce for dipping. Store extra tomato sauce in an air-tight container in refrigerator.
Notes
- Serve as a savoury snack or as a side dish with cooked fish or chicken.
- This recipe is also a great side to our Paleo Popcorn Chicken recipe.
- Toss sweet potato chips with 1 tablespoon dried herbs such as rosemary or oregano before baking.
- To prevent your chips from going soggy I recommend pre-heating your oven tray prior to transferring chips into for baking.
- Omit fresh garlic from tomato sauce use garlic infused olive oil in place of olive oil.
